Genuine Moments in The River: A Family Photo Session in Maui, Hawaii
At Vanessa Arias Photography, we recently had the pleasure of capturing an extraordinary family photo session adventure with Lauren, her husband, toddler, and grandpa.
A Non-Traditional Vision:
Mom, Lauren, had a specific vision for their family photo session. She wanted something beyond the ordinary, incorporating lush greenery and the calming presence of water. When we suggested capturing moments by the river, Lauren enthusiastically agreed.
Embracing Hawaiian Traditions:
Lauren, eager to infuse their session with Hawaiian flair, added flower leis to their photo package. As local Maui photographers and expert adventure planners, we have the know-how to turn ordinary moments into magical memories.
Collaboration with Local Artistry:
To enhance the experience, we collaborated with one of our preferred vendors, Andrea, a local flower artist. Andrea crafted a custom haku lei for Lauren, adding a burst of tropical colors that beautifully complemented the deep greens of the valley.
Authentic Toddler Moments:
Working with toddlers can be a challenge, but it's the authenticity that makes these moments special. At Vanessa Arias Photography, we understand that kids need constant stimulus to stay engaged. Rather than enforcing stillness, we let them be themselves – playing, throwing rocks, telling stories, indulging in treats, splashing water, and anything else that fosters genuine family connections.
Documentary Approach:
Our approach is all about adapting to different family dynamics and creating something beautiful and true to them. Kids aren't expected to stay quiet and still for an entire hour; it's not in their nature. So, we embrace the imperfections, allowing kids to cry, jump around, be silly, affectionate, and wonderfully weird.
Intentional Family Time:
The Peters family's adorable baby girl engaged in a rock-throwing competition with her parents, dipped her tiny feet into the water, and sang songs with her grandpa. It wasn't a perfect, posed scenario, but it was genuine – a true reflection of their family bond.
